OPENING STATEMENTS

PRELUDE “Andante tranquillo” from Organ Sonata no. 3, (opus 65)

Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy

†INTROIT “Creation Song”

Let everything that has breath, praise the Lord! Let everything that has breath,

shout and sing. For God created the heavens and earth by speaking only a word,

Let everything that has breath, praise the Lord!

†CALL TO WORSHIP

Pastor: Lord we gather to know wisdom and instruction.

People: We gather and seek understanding.

Pastor: Lord we glorify the name of Jesus,

People: In whom we find wisdom revealed.

Unison: We submit our lives to You, O God. Be glorified in our worship today.

†HYMN OF PRAISE #648  “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling”

Love divine, all loves excelling, joy of heav’n, to earth come down,

fix in us thy humble dwelling, all thy faithful mercies crown.

Jesus, thou art all compassion, pure, unbounded love thou art.

Visit us with thy salvation; enter ev'ry trembling heart.

Breathe, O breathe thy loving Spirit into ev’ry troubled breast.

Let us all in thee inherit, let us find the promised rest.

Take away our bent to sinning; Alpha and Omega be.

End of faith, as its beginning, set our hearts at liberty.

Come, Almighty, to deliver, let us all thy life receive.

Suddenly return, and never, nevermore thy temples leave.

Thee we would be always blessing, serve thee as thy hosts above,

Pray and praise thee without ceasing, glory in thy perfect love.

Finish, then, thy new creation; pure and spotless let us be.

Let us see thy great salvation perfectly restored in thee.

Changed from glory into glory, till in heav’n we take our place,

Till we cast our crowns before thee, lost in wonder, love and praise.

PRAYER OF CONFESSION (First in Silence, then in Unison):

God of glory, we confess we have not sought wisdom from your word. In our foolishness, we turn inward to chase answers that stem from faulty truth. Therefore we repent of unrighteous thinking, and trust you to renew our minds around Christ’s teaching and your eternal wisdom. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.

THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE  “Lamb of God”

Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us. Lamb of God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world. Grant us peace; grant us peace.

ASSURANCE OF GOD'S FAITHFULNESS from Proverbs 28:13

Brothers and sisters in Christ, we know from the wisdom of God, “One who conceals his wrongdoings will not prosper, But one who confesses and abandons them will find compassion.” So as we have turned to God, confessed our sins, and committed to a life of repentance, let us rejoice in knowing that God has forgiven us. Our wrongdoings are remembered no more. Thanks be to God.

†GLORIA PATRI  "Glory Be to the Father”

Glory Be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost.

As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

†APOSTLES CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

ANTHEM “The Invitation”  Ethan McGrath

Come to Me, all you who are weary, and I will give you rest. Come to me, all you who are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for to your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.

Come to Me, all you who are weary, and I will give you rest. Come to me, all you who are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

CONGREGATIONAL FELLOWSHIP & CHILDREN ARE EXCUSED FOR CHILDREN’S CHURCH

SERMON SCRIPTURE READING Proverbs 1:1-7

The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel:

To know wisdom and instruction,

To discern the sayings of understanding,

To receive instruction in wise behavior,

Righteousness, justice, and integrity;

To give prudence to the naive,

To the youth knowledge and discretion,

A wise person will hear and increase in learning,

And a person of understanding will acquire wise counsel,

To understand a proverb and a saying,

The words of the wise and their riddles.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;

Fools despise wisdom and instruction.

†COMMUNION HYMN #461  “In Remembrance”

In remembrance of Me, eat this bread. In remembrance of Me, drink this wine.

In remembrance of Me, pray for the time when God’s own will is done.

In remembrance of Me, heal the sick. In remembrance of Me, feed the poor.

In remembrance of Me, open the door and let your brother in, let him in.

Take, eat, and be comforted; Drink and remember, too, that this is My body and precious blood shed for you, shed for you. In remembrance of Me, search the truth.

In remembrance of Me, always love.

In remembrance of Me, don’t look above, but in your heart, look in your heart for God. Do this in remembrance of me.

CELEBRATION OF THE SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPER

THE PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER

Lord hear our prayer, hear our prayer have mercy on us. Lord hear our prayer, hear our prayer have mercy on us.

†SENDING HYMN #411  “I Hide Your Word within My Heart”

I hide Your Word within my heart To keep me safe from sin;

For where Your truth is in control No lie can enter in.

I shine Your Word upon my path And walk within its light;

For where Your wisdom shines, O Lord, It drives away the night.

I trust Your Word with all my heart And give You thanks and praise;

For all the beauty of Your truth That stands from age to age.
