The above photo of Pastor Paul playing the guitar was taken by San Pedro member Tom Workman. It serves as a visual reminder of the powerful truth conveyed by the Apostle Paul.
"Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 28 And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues." 1 Corinthians 12:27-28
We are called to serve the Lord, and there are many ways to serve.
We find no references in Scripture to the notion of "retirement" from service unto the Lord. What God calls each of us to do may change, but commitment to stewarding our resources of time, talents, and treasures continues throughout our lifetime. The challenge for our faith family is to make space for Holy Spirit to reveal each of our callings in Christ. Every church of every size has a divine purpose from God, and we clarify how each of us plays a part in what we read as the "body of Christ."
So how will we do this? As we celebrate how our church organically affirms the talents of others (like Tom's pictures and Pastor Paul's preaching and musicianship), let us consider the intentional ways we might nurture the calling of others. Who are the teachers, helpers, care givers and leaders of the future? Let us commit to the journey of discovering the talents and treasures God has put within each of our members of every age.
